United Call for Restoration of Special Status in Jammu and Kashmir

Jammu: Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary voiced a resolute message on Monday, affirming that the demand for Jammu and Kashmir’s special status is a shared fight of all its citizens, regardless of political or religious affiliations. Addressing a gathering at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan in Jammu, he declared that the cause transcends leadership; it is, he stated, the united pursuit of every resident.

“This call for the restoration of special status isn't confined to the political leaders,” Choudhary remarked. “Every citizen in Jammu and Kashmir, be they Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Christian, or any other faith, wants the rights taken from them to be returned.” His words resonated with the gathering, who appeared to see this issue as one encompassing the entire region's diversity.

The Deputy Chief Minister underscored the recent resolution passed in the J&K Legislative Assembly, which he noted was a reminder to India’s Home Minister about a promise made on the Parliament floor—that statehood and rightful privileges would be restored to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. “We have highlighted the urgency of this promise, urging that it be honored without delay,” he added.

Choudhary raised pointed questions about regional equity, urging the audience to consider why Jammu and Kashmir's rights to land and jobs have been compromised. “In Himachal Pradesh, others can’t buy land or acquire job quotas. Why, then, is Jammu and Kashmir’s autonomy being eroded?” he questioned, reflecting widespread concerns among local citizens.

Emphasizing the unity among people, Choudhary concluded by reminding everyone that the struggle for these rights calls for the involvement of every individual. "This movement isn’t limited to the leaders; every citizen has a role to play in our rightful struggle for restored status and statehood.

The sentiments expressed highlighted a unified commitment to reclaim the region's unique identity and rights. As discussions around special status continue, residents from various backgrounds seem increasingly resolved to see their voices acknowledged in India's policy decisions.
